Dan and Judy Armstrong have been married for almost 21 years and have six children. In August of 2005, they moved to South-central Texas to begin Genesis Ministries, Incorporated. The purpose of this ministry is to work with teenagers that are "at risk". This ministry was established because of the fifteen years of youth experience and the need they saw for this generation. From 1992 - 1998 they worked as volunteers at Maranatha Fellowship in St. Albans, WV and then become staff members from 1998 - 2005. In January of 2006, they began working with youth at PromiseLand Church in San Marcos, Texas.
While attending Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia during the mid 80's, both Dan and Judy began working with individuals disabled by autism. This work grew over the years as they started dealing with the individuals with both mental and/or physical disabilities. Dan opened his own private practice in 1997 working with disabled youth that were behaviorally challenged. He consulted with parents, schools, and mental heath facilities in developing behavior programs to assist individuals in learning to deal with their negative and dysfunctional behavioral issues. Their experience and education in counseling, behavioral therapy, and youth ministry has enabled them to reach hundreds of teenagers over the past fifteen years.
As they worked with teens in both West Virginia and Texas, they found one thing to be consistent; teens want to know they are loved and have a purpose. Genesis Ministries started after they realized that many teenagers would leave an incredible youth camp experience and be unable to maintain what they had received. Some teens would return to dysfunctional environments and be overwhelmed by the pressures of sex, drugs, alcohol, or other situations. Dan and Judy realized that if they were going to be able to fulfill the call that God had placed on their life, they needed more than a week of summer camp and a two hour weekly youth service to truly impact this generation. Their call from God is to invest into the lives of teenagers and help them realize they have a purpose, a destiny, and an ability to make positive changes in their world.
Several years ago, Dan and Judy began working more personally with this population by taking them into their home and making them part of their family. They began seeing life changing transformations. The teenagers, through the power of Christ, began to rise up and become the controllers of their environments rather than allowing their environments to have control over them. In August of 2005, God called them to Texas to begin the development of a ranch where they can work with the "at risk" teen population - Genesis Ranch |
